From Boys & Girls State to the US Senate Youth Youth Program, motivated students can apply to take part in a variety of leadership camps and activities. These programs take place outside of school and have specific application requirements. Some have costs associated with them, while acceptance to others comes with a scholarship. Explore the opportunities and see if one of them fits you!
Boys & Girls State | Current juniors who are interested in learning more about government may apply to Utah Boys State and Girls State, held every June at Weber State University. These are week-long summer programs created with the purpose of educating Utah’s youth about the duties, privileges, rights and responsibilities of citizenship. See Ms. Regan for more information. |
Engineering State is a 2 day summer camp for high school juniors who are university bound, with a high interest in math and science, and interested in engineering or computer science as a possible field of study. E-State is on the USU Logan campus in June, where students will stay in dorms. You must have a 3.0 GPA to attend, and the cost is $150, which includes accommodations and meals. The Utah Chapter of Freedoms Foundation at Valley Forge will provide selected 11th graders the opportunity to attend the 2024 Spirit of America Youth Conference at Valley Forge, PA. The program also includes tours of Valley Forge, Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell. See Ms. Regan for information/application. | |
For students who may want to attend Southern Utah University, this is a 9-day summer leadership and learning program for highly motivated students. Must have a 3.75 GPA to apply. The program costs $1200, but those who are selected and complete the program will have a 4 year Presidential Scholarship to SUU. Apply online at www.suu.edu/gha by TBA. | |
Sophomores: Leadership seminar designed to help high school sophomores recognize their leadership talents and apply them to become effective, ethical leaders in their home, school, workplace and community. School will sponsor 1 boy and 1 girl. See Ms. Regan for application. | |
The Utah National Guard Freedom Academy promotes the ideals and principles of the USA, a sense of patriotism, and motivation to actively participate in preserving our freedom. For current juniors, held in July, free to participants. See Ms. Regan for application information. | |
RYLA stands for Rotary Youth Leadership Award. Participants are selected by a local Rotary Club to attend an all expense paid 3-day leadership conference designed to build character, teamwork, leadership and personal development. The “Award” part of RYLA is the actual scholarship the Rotary Club provides so that a participant may attend camp. See Ms. Regan for application information. | |
Juniors, now is the time to act! Apply to our Summer Leaders Experience by March 15th to take a behind the scenes look at West Point and see how we develop leaders of character. This weeklong immersive on-campus experience runs June 1 - 7, and June 8 - 14, 2024. There is no fee to apply, and generous need-based scholarships are available. Standardized test scores are not required, but the ideal applicant has a strong academic background and participates in team sports and other extracurricular activities. Note: When you apply for SLE you are also submitting an admissions screening application. | |
The United States Senate Youth Program is a unique educational experience for outstanding high school students interested in pursuing careers in public service. The 2025 program will be held 3/1 - 3/8/25. Two student leaders from each state will spend a week in Washington experiencing their national government in action. All transportation, hotel and meal expenses will be provided by The Hearst Foundations. In addition, each delegate will also be awarded a $10,000 college scholarship for undergraduate studies, with encouragement to pursue coursework in history and political science.
